Fish & Chips Fact

With restaurant doors shut for another 4 weeks, there’s only one thing to be done: order a takeaway. So let's take a look at some facts from one of British's favourite and traditional food... The Fish & Chips!


1- Fish and chips are said to have been first served together as a dish around 1860 - although their origin is contested.


2- Fish and Chips were served in newspaper until the 1980s.


3- Over 250 million fish and chip meals are sold each year in the UK.


4- The word batter comes from the French word battre, which means to beat - in reference to whisking the flour


5- During World War II, fish and chips remained one of the few foods in the United Kingdom not subject to rationing and water together. Prime Minister Winston Churchill referred to the combination of fish and chips as “the good companions.”
